applefest
Sunday, October 1 | 12pm-3pm
Location: Stonington Ball Field
AppleFest is a community event and fundraiser that celebrates the arrival of fall with live music, food, kids activities, vendors, and the beloved Applewalk, where participants take home delicious apple goods. Tickets are required.

jack-o’-lantern walk
Returning, October 2023
Location: School Nature Trail | Deer Isle – Stonington Elementary School
Community members are invited to carve pumpkins at Deer Isle – Stonington Elementary School. In the evenings, the School Nature Trail will be lined with jack-o’-lanterns. Everyone is invited to walk the trail at sundown each night. This event is in partnership with the Mariners Soar! After School Program and Island Heritage Trust.

spooktacular
Saturday, October 28, 2023
On the Saturday before Halloween, the Island Community Center celebrates the holiday with a costume parade through downtown Deer Isle and Stonington with trick-or-treating at local businesses. The Spooktacular concludes with a Halloween movie at the nearby Stonington Opera House. This event is free!

thanksgiving day dinner drive
Thursday, November 23, 2023
A community-wide event, this program serves Thanksgiving dinner to over 100 people each year and brings together many volunteers who spend their holiday preparing and delivering the meals. In addition to dinner and dessert, recipients receive Thanksgiving cards from local children.

holiday craft fair
Saturday, November 25 | 10am-1pm
Celebrate Small Business Saturday at the Island Community Center. Some of the peninsula’s best vendors, crafters, and organizations sell their work and help to kick off the holiday season. Admission is free and open to the public.

Returning, December 2023
Island residents decorate their home, business, boat, or car for the holidays in this display of community pride. The Island Community Center provides a local map, collects votes, and distributes prizes for fan favorites.

love our island
Returning, February 2024
Every February the Island Community Center teams up with local students and nonprofits to spread love across our island. We gather Valentine’s to distribute to our senior citizens and fill the windows of local businesses with artwork.

the great down-easter egg hunt
Returning in 2024
On the Saturday before Easter, join the Island Community Center for The Great Down-Easter Egg Hunt! 2023’s Easter adventure will begin on the steps of the Stonington Library. The Island Community Center will hand out craft bags and area businesses will be handing out treats. Participants will walk through town to the Stonington Playground where the Opera House will host the Great Down-Easter Egg Hunt (weather permitting). In case of rain or wet conditions the hunt may be moved into the Island Community Center gym. This is a free event.

Stonington Six
Returning in 2024
The Stonington Six is a popular 10K fundraiser run that kicks off the Island’s Fourth of July festivities. The race is divided into three categories: the Stonington Six (6.2 miles or 10k), the Fun Run (1 mile), and the Walker Class. Prizes are awarded for top male and female finishers in each age division, to the first Deer Isle or Stonington resident to finish, and for the oldest and youngest finishers. Each racer receives a t-shirt with registration.

flash in the pans
Returning in 2024
Grab your dance shoes and come enjoy the steel drums of Flash in the Pans. Hailing from Blue Hill, Flash in the Pans is one of the largest community steel drum bands in the country. This annual community street dance is a combined fundraiser for the Island Community Center and Flash in the Pans. Suggested $5 donation. Bring chairs to sit and enjoy or get ready to get your groove on. Snacks and drinks are available for sale.
